The first thing which you need to know when getting your first kitten is having in mind the type of cat you are looking for. There are a variety of breeds which you can choose from. If you need a cat to keep as a family pet, all you need to worry about is the health of the cat and one which is friendly. You can identify a healthy cat from its coat which should be glossy and bright shiny eyes. There are people who keep cats for breeding or for making shows. If this is the purpose for the cat, you will need to see the kitten’s mother since it should be a shining example of the breed.
It’s obvious that you will need to feed the cat. Whatever you feed the cat is very important since it will have a direct effect on its health. Cats that are up for sale from age 4-6 weeks will have a special diet designed specifically for them. At this age, you are required to feed them 4 times a day. Do this for about 3-4 months from where you can start feeding them 2 or 3 times a day. At this stage, you will be able to decide on wet or dried food. For a healthy cat, research shows that dried food is a better option. The cats should also have aces to clean drinking water.
After you have choses the breed that you need to have in your home, you need to make sure that you get an appointment from a vet for vaccination. The kitten should get its first vaccine at 8 weeks and the second one at 1 weeks. You will be assured that your cat will have immunity against several diseases.
